I just finished my latest product Become and Author: All About Books.
Did you know that little 6 year olds can write a REAL non-fiction book with a Table of Contents, Fact pages, Glossary, Diagram, and an About the Author page??
I was VERY nervous about this project. I really thought I may have way too high expectations for those little 6 year olds. I was SO wrong! I gave them a challenge and they accepted my challenge and my highest expectations!
This lesson to write an All About Book took about 3 weeks. We wrote MUCH of it together but there were parts that allowed them to write information that they learned on their own.
We learned about Bats (and everyone wrote about bats- this time), we made our books, we published our books, and celebrated our accomplishment! I even received a couple of e-mails from parents about how much they loved their child’s All About Bats book. WOW!!
This product is made so that you can make any All About Book. It also includes the pages and lesson plans that I created for Bats as an outline.
Here are some pics from one student’s book.
This is from one of my average students. I am so proud of them all! I have since put made up All About books in Writing Workshop as a choice. I can’t believe how many of them are writing other All About Books (pretty successfully)!
After we wrote, we had a little celebration. We wrote letters to our Kindergarten reading buddies inviting them to our celebration. They came over, we shared our books with our buddies, and we enjoyed a chocolate chip cookie. You can’t have a celebration without a cookie, right?
Here is a letter writing freebie that I made last year and we used one of the pages to write our letter!
I am also participating in a giveaway! Go and check out You Might Be a First Grader’s Blog!
