I don’t know why, but I have always really enjoyed Groundhog’s Day! Maybe it’s the hope of spring coming soon! I’m in Ohio and I am always hoping for an early spring! So, of course, I like to have a little fun with my students and do some groundhog activities! You can check out these activities HERE or click on any picture!
This book gives an introduction to what Groundhog’s Day is and students get to make little puppets. At the end of the book, there is a cutout that is the ground and the puppets can “pop out” of the ground with a shadow or without!
Groundhog’s Day Prediction Charts
Even after teaching about Groundhog’s Day year after year, I still need a little reminder about what happens when he sees his shadow and when he doesn’t! I have these anchor charts for FREE!
Groundhog’s Day Graphing
I like to do a little predicting the day before Groundhog’s Day! It gets the kids excited and eager about learning about Groundhog’s Day the following day! The kids make their prediction “secretly” and then give me the ballots. We open them one by one and graph the results together!
Sing a Song, Make a Hat, and do a Word Search!
True/False Game
I like to teach them some facts about Groundhogs! Here is a fun little true/false game you can play!
Directed Drawing
After we’ve learned some facts, we do a directed drawing of a groundhog and then write something we learned about groundhogs! It is so much fun!
