Spookley the Square Pumpkin

Spookley the Square Pumpkin has never been more fun to teach!  Check out these 5 different fun activities to do with the book!

Learning has never been so exciting as it will be with the story of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano. This book study has five different activities. These activities include a retelling anchor chart, retelling the events cut/paste worksheet, bookmark and puppets to retell the story, writing and craft where the students will make their own shape pumpkins, and STEM activity.
What’s Included:
1. Retelling Anchor Chart:
  • Use retelling puzzle pieces to make an anchor chart including character, setting, events, problem, and solution.
2. Retelling the Events Cut/Paste:
  • Students can use the anchor chart to cut/paste the events in order. (9 main events are included).
3. Retelling Bookmark (puzzle pieces) and “Puppets”:
  • Students can practice retelling the story using the puppets and the retelling bookmark.
4. Writing and Craft:
  • This craft is fun! The students will make a shape pumpkin and color it whatever color(s) they want. Their writing will be a descriptive writing about their pumpkin.
5. Build a Fence STEM:
  • The Farmer now needs a new fence! You get to make it and it needs to be strong enough so that the pumpkins won’t go through it during the next storm! The fence needs to be larger than a piece of paper. It also needs to not break when a pumpkin rolls into it. Using the student STEM booklet, they will plan, build, and reflect on their project!
