This year, for our gifts that our students gave to their parents (or guardians), we did a Snowman Canvas!  This was such a fun project and the kids and parents LOVED it!  Here is how we did it…

Step 1:  We ordered canvas through Amazon.  We used 9×12 sheets and ordered it in a package of 12.

Step 2:  We painted the entire background blue.  We used basic washable acrylic paint.  It dries pretty quickly (a couple of hours).

Step 3:  We painted the snowman head.  We used a piece of thick paper to make a template and we drew a pencil outline so the kids knew where to paint.

Step 4:  We added the snowflakes to the blue part.  We just used q-tips so that they could be easily dabbed on.

Step 5:  Next, we added the eye and mouth.  I encouraged the kids to make sure that their paintbrush was straight up and down so it would make the paint go on better.

Step 6:  We added the nose.  Again, we had a template to use.  We also used a smaller brush for this step.  Some of the white snowflakes were hard to cover up with the orange.  Next time, we may do the snowflakes after the nose.

Lastly, we added a little snowflake that we glued on the tip of the nose.  I don’t have a picture of it yet though!

This is a craft that could be done anytime during the winter months!  It’s a great keepsake for parents too!
